Jackie Payne is the Centre Manager at the Samson Centre for MS and has been in this role since Nov 2009. The Centre provides invaluable physiotherapy and exercise for its members, all of whom suffer from MS (Multiple Sclerosis). The Centre has 3 neuro-Physiotherapists and 4 Gym Instructors and they provide 1 to 1 physiotherapy and physio based exercise classes for its 170 members who come in once or twice a week to the Centre. The Samson Centre for MS is totally self-funded and receives no funding from the NHS, government nor the MS Society. Several fundraising events take place each year in order to keep the service going.
The Centre takes in members from Surrey, North Hampshire and SW London. It also provides oxygen therapy, using two individual oxygen chambers and this service is provided by trained volunteers. Breathing in pressurised oxygen for an hour at a time can help relieve some MS symptoms for some people. The Centre also prides itself on its relaxed and friendly environment. Carers are welcome to come in and have a coffee while their partner is being treated and carers can also use the gym at the Centre.
Prior to joining the Samson Centre for MS, Jackie had a career for over 20 years in HR, training & development and project management in the financial services industry. Redundancy gave her the chance to re-think her options and she wanted to ‘give something back’ and work in the charity sector. Best thing she ever did!
