I mainly advise businesses of all sizes (including local authorities) on all aspects of employment law, including; disciplinary procedures, redundancies, absences, maternity rights, unfair dismissal, TUPE, discrimination, contracts of employment, Employment Tribunal representation etc.
A typical example will be advising a business on how to approach and deal with some form of dismissal (typically; redundancy, poor performance or disciplinary), explaining the steps they need to follow and ensuring that once the process begins it runs smoothly and the desired outcome is achieved. There are certain ways in which dismissal proceedings can be approached to ensure the best possible outcome. If done properly, it generally means internal appeals and Tribunal proceedings are avoided.
I also help individuals who are facing employment difficulties, in particular, advising them of their rights and negotiating settlement agreements. A typical example of this is someone who is on maternity leave and who is being subjected to unfair treatment or someone who is being dismissed (redundancy/disciplinary) and where the basis for doing so or the process is unfair.
